After leaving the Shanghai Museum, we went to the French Concession, which is an area in Shanghai that was administered by the French government for about 100 years up to 1946. This “slice of France” with its art galleries, shops and restaurants is now a popular tourist destination. We stopped for lunch and shopping in Xintiandi, an upscale European-style enclave. If it weren’t for the Chinese signage, you might forget you were in China. While we certainly had wonderful Chinese cuisine on our tour, at this point everyone was ready for some Western food. I joined some people at the Glasshouse Restaurant for pizza; others chose places that served hamburgers and sandwiches. These photos show Xintiandi’s fountain square and the bars, restaurants, outdoor cafes and boutiques.

I’d never seen a concoction like this Herb Garden Tea – beautiful and delicious!
